Done! All Sections of the Revised Social Principles Officially Adopted.

Today, General Conference delegates passed The Social Community section of the Revised Social Principles in its entirety.

This afternoon delegates of the General Conference passed the final section of the Revised Social Principles - The Social Community. The vote count was 523 to 161, passing with 76%.

Today’s vote completes the historic adoption of the entire Revised Social Principles document after 12 years of development and engagement from thousands of United Methodists around the world.

In a show of celebration and solidarity, Bishop Dyck, GBCS Board President; Dr. Randall Miller, GBCS Board Vice President and Chair of the Social Principles Revision Task Force; Dr. Mary Elizabeth Moore, Editor and Chief, Revised Social Principles Writing Teams; Reverend Ande Emmanuel, Southern Nigeria Annual Conference Writing Team; and John Hill, GBCS Interim General Secretary, addressed reporters from UMC Conferences recognizing the historic adoption of the Revised Social Principles and a push to use, promote and bring them to life in their context all over the world.

“The newly adopted Social Principles were produced as a teachable document that is for all United Methodists,” said Bishop Dyck. “It is for Sunday school classes, preaching from the pulpit, for seminary classes and as a guide for all of us to use right now.”
