Festival of God's Creation (Earth Day Sunday)

April 25, 2010
Children with a globeEach year, the General Board of Church and Society, working with the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Working Group, produces Festival of God's Creation resource materials to help congregations celebrate and promote stewardship of God's creation.

This year's Festival of God's Creation / Earth Day Sunday, celebrated April 25, 2010, is "Sacred Spaces and an Abundant Life" exploring how stewardship of the Earth is a core value of the Christian tradition.

The United Methodist Church designates one Sunday each year, preferably the Sunday closest to Earth Day, as a Festival of God's Creation, celebrating God's gracious work in creating the earth and all living things.

2010 Earth Day Resources

Suggested Theme: "Sacred Spaces and an Abundant Life"

As always, this year's resource includes:

  • Background Information
  • Theological Foundation
  • Bulletin Insert
  • Sermon Notes
  • Action Ideas

While this year's resource theme was chosen because of the timeliness of the issue and the critical need to advocate for action to address the global climate crisis, the most important thing is to celebrate the beauty and bounty of God's creation and to recommit ourselves to protecting God's handiwork.
