Alcohol and Other Addictions

You can engage and be empowered by taking action on and learning about the alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling and pornography issues through education, research, programs, and resources.   Network action is targeted at alcohol, tobacco, and gambling prevention and strict regulation of the alcohol, tobacco and gambling industries.  Action on pornography is targeted at its complete eradication.

Civil and Human Rights

This network covers such issues as immigration and refugees, criminal justice reform, the abolition of state-sponsored torture, religious freedom, civil rights, voting rights, and racial justice. By joining you will receive timely updates on these issues and the important legislation that impacts them, as well as opportunities to take action and to let your U.S. Congressional Representatives what you feel about these issues.

Health Care

You can engage and be empowered by taking action on and learning about the health care issues through education, research, programs, and resources.   Network action is targeted at access to adequate and complete health care and reforming the health care systems across the globe.

HIV & AIDS

Approximately 39 million people in the world have the AIDS virus. The United Methodist Church has a vital role to play in stopping this pandemic. As a member of the HIV & AIDS Network you will receive timely action alerts on AIDS related pieces of legislation in the U.S. Congress as well as on other opportunities for action. Current resources on HIV & AIDS for local congregations or communities will be sent to you along with links to key organizations/initiatives addressing the AIDS crisis. Promotional information about the UMC Global AIDS Fund and World AIDS Day will be distributed.

Isaiah Circle

Isaiah Circle is the United Nations and International Affairs Advocacy Network of GBCS. It groups together United Methodists around the world who have signified their intention to use the United Nations mechanisms and other regional and international multilateral instruments as basis for advocating both national and international policies on issues as diverse as sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, international law, war and peace, women, children, and freedom of religion or belief.

Mental Health

You can engage and be empowered by taking action and learning about mental health issues through education, research, programs, and resources.   Network action is targeted destigmatizing mental illness, mental health parity, and adequate funding for mental health programs.

Peace with Justice

You can engage and be empowered by taking action on and learning about peace with justice issues through education, grassroots campaigns, and legislative advocacy.  Network action is targeted at ending the war in Iraq, the crisis in Darfur, stopping new nuclear weapons, and legislation and campaigns to overcome global poverty and hunger.

United Methodists Against the Death Penalty

The United Methodist Church has strongly stood against the death penalty for 50 years. By joining UMADP you will lend your voice to the voices of United Methodist activists throughout the country working for total abolition. You can also receive resources to se in your local church as well as opportunities to act against the death penalty in your state and other states as well.

Women and Population

As a member of this network, you will receive timely action alerts related to pending pieces of legislation in the U.S. Congress as well as other opportunities for advocacy. Links to organizations addressing issues related to women and children will be shared as well as up-to-date resources on issues such as domestic violence, population growth and its impact, women and health, human trafficking, family planning and economic justice. Worship resources will be distributed periodically.
