Global Health Initiative

The inter-agency Health & Wholeness Task Force – a collaborative effort by United Methodist Communications, the Board of Higher Education and Ministry, the Board of Pensions and Health Benefits, the Board of Church and Society and the Board of Global Ministries – is committed to work towards a global society of persons who are spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally healthy.

 

 

Malaria

 Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign which helps fight malaria by the use of insecticide treated bed nets.

HIV/AIDS

The reason why women are infected is mainly because they are in a monogamous relationship with a spouse who is infected because of a premarital or extramarital relationship. So more innocent women are becoming infected with HIV infections.

Water

Diseases like dysentery are extremely common in communities where bathing, washing clothes, and watering livestock are all done from the same stream where drinking water comes from.

Diabetes 

In the U.S., one in fourteen people suffer from diabetes and more than 200,000 died last year from this disease. The epidemic is more widespread in ethnic groups such as the african american, mexican american and american indian populations. In some instances these minorities have a 50% higher death rate.
