Banquet & Speaker DetailsBishop Minerva Carcaño of the Desert Southwest Conference of The United Methodist Church, will be the Friday Banquet speaker at Challenging Business As Usual: Facing the Facts held in conjunction with “Welcoming the Sojourner — Finding the Church’s Voice on Immigration.” Carcaño is chair of the United Methodist Council of Bishops committee on immigration. She also heads an interagency task force of the denomination that targets reform of U.S. immigration laws. The North Central Jurisdiction Commission on Religion on Race Annual Fall Learning Event overlaps with ”Welcoming the Sojourner” which is co-sponsored by the North Central Jurisdiction and the General Board of Church & Society (GBCS). For more information on “Welcoming the Sojourner” click here. Other featured speakers include host Bishop Hee-Soo Jung of the Northern Illinois Conference preaching on Friday afternoon. Bishop Jung, a passionate preacher has been a champion for diversity in the church. Erin Hawkins General Secretary of the General Commission on Religion and Race will be the featured speaker Saturday evening. All events are open to the public.
