Prison Ministry Book DiscussionThe General Board of Church and Society invites you to engage in study and reflection on the newly released Ministry with Prisoners and Families edited by W. Wilson Goode Sr., Charles E. Lewis Jr., and Harold Dean Trulear.
Book Discussion with AuthorsOn November 2 at 4pm EST, you can participate in a conference call with Rev. Dr. Harold Trulear to discuss the book, share with one another what you have learned in your ministries, and talk about what we can do to bring justice to those we care about who are impacted by the brokenness of the criminal justice system. We look forward to time of discussion, networking, sharing ideas and mobilizing our communities to continue moving in paths of justice and restoration. About Ministry with Prisoners and Families: The Way Forward We are excited to recommend Ministry with Prisoners and Families: The Way Forward (2011, Judson Press). Through a collection of reflections by authors who base their writings on actual ministry experience and expertise, the editors offer a well-balanced and challenging look at models for ministering among those directly impacted by a broken criminal justice system. The challenge in the book to churches is to move beyond offering ministries to people to being in full relationships with people - to be incarnate among them. There is often an excitement of offering new programs - programs that allow those of us not directly impacted by the criminal justice system to remain safely in control while the social and political order remains intact - to move into the mutual transformation of incarnational relationships. Offering criminal justice ministry programs can be helpful at times, but incarnational relationships among those directly impacted are transformative; transforming those directly impacted, those indirectly impacted, and potentially, even the broken system itself.
